About Eileen Hayes
Eileen Hayes (1948 – 2017) was our Chair of Trustees until 28th November 2017.
Not everyone can make a lasting difference, but Eileen Hayes dedicated her life to helping families. Eileen was an author, magazine columnist, qualified family counsellor and frequent broadcaster on TV and radio. But by far the role she was most proud of was being a mother of four and grandmother of three.
Without doubt, Eileen’s work for our charity made a tremendous difference, in allowing us to develop into one of the UK’s leading organisations to promote and provide training courses in Baby Communication and Baby Behaviour.
Born in Falkirk, Scotland, Eileen’s background included degrees in psychology and health education and her career focused on promoting positive parenting techniques and the better understanding of infants and young children.
As parenting advisor to the NSPCC, over many years she worked on major campaigns and wrote widely about crying, sleep and tantrums, and published several books on childcare. She was Editor-in-Chief of “Your Family” magazine and was a parenting consultant to Bounty, who deliver publications to all new mothers.
Eileen was awarded MBE in the 2009 Birthday Honours for services to children and families. Because of this, we are so honoured that Eileen joined the Brazelton Centre UK and helped our charity grow and thrive and we want to ensure her legacy lives on.
The Eileen Hayes Fund
The Brazelton Centre UK is committed to improving the wellbeing of families and we do this through the provision of training in the Neonatal Behavioural Assessment Scale (NBAS) and the Newborn Behavioural Observations system (NBO).
To honour Eileen’s passing and with the kind support of her family, our charity has established the Eileen Hayes Fund in her memory. This is a restricted fund to enable us to:
- Provide bursaries to fund or part-fund training in the NBO and NBAS
- Support initiatives that will help families with guidance about child development and behaviour that assists parent and baby relationships.
